(Created: Friday, February 23, 2007 9:20 PM EST)

Three Loudoun wineries made the cut to represent Virginia wines at a historic wine tasting taking place in May in London.

The Virginia Wine Experience selected 65 Virginia wines from 33 wineries in the state, including Breaux Vineyards, Fabbioli Cellars and Doukenie Winery, formerly Windham Winery.

Following are the wines from the Loudoun members that will be presented to media and wine industry representatives at the Vinopolis wine tasting event in London on May 2:

  • Breaux Vineyards' 2005 Viognier, 2002 Merlot Reserve, 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2004 Alexis

  • Fabiolli Cellars' Raspberry Merlot

  • Doukenie Winery's 2005 Chardonnay, 2004 Merlot

"Since this is the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown settlement, now is an excellent time to highlight the fact that Virginia was the first place in North America where English settlers deliberately set out to produce wine," said Richard Leahy, executive director of the Virginia Wine Experience in London. "We believe Londoners will appreciate the historical significance of our theme, and it's a tremendous opportunity to showcase recent progress in the Virginia wine industry."
