Leesburg business owner David Tevis, the lone challenger to Mayor Kristen Umstattd in May's town council elections, announced today that he is ending his campaign to be the town's next mayor.
Tevis cited health concerns as his reason for leaving the race, but said he may consider running again in two years.
"I regret because of a diabetic condition, I can no longer participate in the election of mayor of Leesburg," Tevis said. "I want to thank all of those who have aided me, and wanted a democracy that was not controlled by a few and would have been sensitive to the fiscal wishes of the electorate. If my condition improves in two years, I vow to be in the race again."
Tomorrow marks the filing deadline for all seeking to run in May's municipal elections. Thus far, Leesburg Town Council candidates David Butler, Frank Holtz and Tom Dunn have filed their paperwork to run in May, along with incumbent Councilwoman Katie Sheldon Hammler. Hammler, Holtz, Dunn and Butler are running for three vacant council seats. Umstattd has also completed all of her paperwork to run for her fourth mayoral term.

I know plenty of people with diabetes, and it doesn't stop them from working.
This guy was never serious.
