A Prince George's County, MD man is in custody after he made statements to authorities about having a bomb earlier this morning. A portion of the Riding Center Plaza shopping center parking lot remains closed off while the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the bomb threat.
Shortly after 8 a.m., the 62-year-old man approached two sheriff's deputies in the shopping center parking lot of Loudoun County Parkway in South Riding, sheriff's office spokesperson Kraig Troxell said.
"The subject told the deputies he had something for them and then handed them a package," Troxell said. The subject then began making comments about a bomb.
The man also made verbal threats to bomb the CIA headquarters.
Authorities, including the Loudoun County bomb squad, the sheriff's office and fire-rescue personnel, remain on the scene to search his vehicle, which is the shopping center parking lot, and investigate the package.
"People can get to most of the shopping center now," Troxell said. "But part of the parking lot remains blocked off."
Troxell said the man would most likely be taken in for mental evaluation shortly.
