Professional Stunt Workshop Coming Up

Interested teens are encouraged to sign up to participate in "Ready to Rumble," a stage combat workshop led by professional stunt woman Carolyn Christensen and sponsored by the Loudoun County Public Library system.

The course combines a mixture of dance, martial arts and acting to produce safe, choreographed violence for stage and screen. Participants will get a rundown of safe stage combat practices that allow actors to "fight" onstage without hurting themselves or their partners. Christensen will also give weapons demonstrations and specific techniques behind slaps, punches, falls and hair-pulls to make pretend fights look believable.

Christensen was certified as an actor/combatant in 2003 by Dueling Arts International and is an apprentice with the United Stuntmen's Association. She also performs locally with Aurora Studio Theatre and Not Just Shakespeare.

The one-day workshop will be held at three different locations: at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Purcellville Library; 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Ashburn Library; or at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Cascades Library.
