The Potomac River Driving Association is sponsoring a weekend of beginner carriage driving lessons from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and 3.
The lessons will be held in Bluemont and are broken down into two sessions each day. Saturday morning harnesses and driving bits, the parts that comprise them and how to fit them properly on a horse will be addressed. The afternoon session will focus on reinsmanship, ground driving and whip handling. Sunday's morning session will introduce participants to carriage and cart types and proper attire, while the evening will consist mostly of carriage driving.
The weekend series is hands-on and all lesson materials are included. Participants may sign up for one or both days and no experience is required.
Students should bring a lawn chair and bagged lunch for each day.
The class costs $50 for one session, or $185 for the entire weekend. Those interested must sign up prior to class time.
