The owners and representatives of dozens of businesses gathered at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne Thursday night for the Loudoun County Green Business Challenge's second annual awards program. While the night was built around the announcement of the top winners in this year's competition, the event featured participants sharing stories of the rewards their companies and their employees found through the effort.

Next week will mark the opening of the county's newest Chick-fil-A restaurant, and in the tradition of the restaurant chain the first 100 adults in line will receive one free meal a week for a year.

While unable to beat total sales in June 2010, the 553 preliminary sales represented a 31 percent gain over May and outpaced both June 2009 and June 2008. By contrast, the 2011 median sales price in Loudoun County continues to advance, reaching the highest point since 2007.

Dulles-based Orbital Sciences Corporation was awarded the a firm contract for the Thaicom 6 communications satellite. Based on Orbital's GEOStar-2 satellite platform, the Thaicom 6 satellite will be designed, manufactured and tested at Orbital's satellite manufacturing facility on Rt. 28.
