Get ready for a night of academic fun at Mountain View Elementary School as the school's staff hosts its annual MTV Moose Scholarship Spelling Bee at 7 p.m. Friday.
Loudoun Valley High School's aging athletic facilities and lack of storage space captured much of the attention during the School Board's public hearing and work session Tuesday.
There has been a clear shift in the climate of Loudoun County School Board meetings this year. It was apparent the new four-year term would see major changes when minutes after the six newly elected School Board members were sworn in Jan. 3, they appointed Eric Hornberger (Ashburn) as their chairman and Jill Turgeon (Blue Ridge) as their vice chairman, placing two from the new super majority at the board's helm.
With no action from the Board of Supervisors last week, the contract and plans to build the county's next high school on the National Conference Center property in Lansdowne will move forward as the due diligence period ended quietly Feb. 17.
Thanks to grants, donations and the hard work of dozens of volunteers, Sycolin Creek Elementary School will soon be home to a playground designed for children living with special needs.
The county's best spellers will face off Thursday, March 8 at the 30th Annual Loudoun Regional Spelling Bee.
